Dr. Rasmussen was pretty excited about this recent archeological find. In fact it was only three months ago that the tomb of St. Phillip was discovered.
Paul was excited about his recent find too. It had to do with Lyle wearing the same type of vest. And when he found out about all Lyles many travels, including climbing Mt. Killamanjaro the vest got a new "cool" status and it's been back out of the suitcase ever since.
Every night when we are driving around 5:00pm we see men gathered at local places like these where they visit, smoke and have tea. They can pop up anywhere but usually involve two chairs very close together where they smoke, drink tea, and and stare at our bus. Many of them wave and smile.

Inside of the terrace homes in Ephesus. It is amazing how well preserved the mosaics are. These home were so sophisticated with clay pipes, water, latrines, courtyards and interior fresco paintings.

The library in Ephesus. It was huge, huge, huge. We had just visited a house in the area that was called a
"brothel" but the guide wasn't sure how it got that name. Later when we were here he was telling us how the archeologists discovered a tunnel from inside the library leading out to the "brothel." That not only explained the name but why so many men spent so much time at the library.

Ephesus was really amazing. The roads, theater, agora and houses were mind boggling.
Their is just so much ancient history here and it is really only recently that the country is starting to realize what they have here in terms of antiquities. In fact in some areas they are so eager to get moving on things they are using a bulldozer!

Paul could really cinch 'cool' status if he traveled like this guy:http://www.rtwblog.com/. No luggage - just necessities stuffed in the pockets of his vest.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having a fabulous time.
I guess I should be glad that Pat has never liked going to the 'library'. :)
Lyle and Paul are going to check this out! Thanks Cheri!
